SIBL MD Zafar Alamobtains UN accreditation

Becomes Sr. VC of Global Economist Forum

Staff Correspondent: The down grading Social Islami Bank PLC has regained its previous strength by achieving qualitative development in all of the areas of banking. The bank is now one of the main stream banks of Bangladesh under the guidance and supervision of its incumbent Managing Director Mr. Zafar Alam.
Mr. Alam has been elected Senior Vice President of the Global Economist Forum, a United Nations General Consultant Member Organisation, due to his dynamic role in the banking as well as economic sector not only in Bangladesh but also in the international arena.
Mr. Zafar Alam also accredited by the United Nations gaining a special identity card of the highest international body of the independent states. By virtue of the ID card, he will be treated as very import person (VIP) over the world. It is a rate achievement for any banker of Bangladesh.
Former Foreign Affairs advisor of the caretaker government Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury attended the UN ID handing over ceremony as chief guest while Dr. Enayet Karim, President of Global Economist Forum and Indian Army General Dr. Dilawar Singh, how is also the Senior Vice President of Global Economist Forum and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam Haji Haris bin Haji Othman attended the function as special guests.
Zafar Alam, a seasoned banker, has a glorious professional banking career spanning over three decades. He joined Social Islami Bank PLC as the Managing Director & CEO on December 21, 2021. Prior to joining SIBL, Zafar Alam served Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited as Additional Managing Director. There he also played the role of Managing Director (Current Charge) for 14 months.
He started his banking career at Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) as a Probationary Officer in 1992. He served IBBL for long 26 years in various leadership capacities. During his tenure there, he was Head of Branch at 6 large Branches of Dhaka city and Manager Operation at 2 Branches. At IBBL, he was promoted to the position of Senior Executive Vice President in recognition of his sincerity, dedication and performance and played the roles of Head of Human Resources Wing and the Bank’s First Chief Human Resources Officer. In 2017 he joined SIBL as the Deputy Managing Director.
During his long and colorful 32 years of banking career, he gained extensive banking experience and developed a wide range of expertise as he worked in different capacities in almost all the areas of banking viz. Strategic Planning, Managing Investment Portfolios, Foreign Trade, Treasury Operation, General Banking, Asset Liability Oversight, Leadership Development, Risk Mitigation, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Engagement, Branch Management, etc.
Mr. Zafar Alam attended numerous seminars, workshops and training programs both at home and abroad. A widely travelled person, Mr. Zafar Alam visited many countries including USA, Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to enrich his professional knowledge.
Zafar Alam obtained BSS (Hons) and MSS in Public Administration from the University of Chittagong. He obtained Diploma in Islamic Banking (DIB) in 2002 from Islami Bank Training and Research Academy, Bangladesh.
