When educational institutions to open
Mahfuja Mukul: The Ministry of Education is giving more importance to the completion of the ongoing HSC examination. Besides, there is also pressure to finish the six-monthly summative evaluation of secondary schools. But none will be possible if educational institutions are not opened. So, it will be decided in the next two days when the educational institutions will open. On the other hand, it will take another two days to decide on the opening of primary schools in the metropolitan city area. This information is known from the relevant sources of the ministry.
Director General of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Nehal Ahmed said that it will still take time to open secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions. He told the Bangla Tribune, “In the next two days, a decision will be taken to open the educational institutions.” However, there has been no final discussion on this yet.
According to the sources of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, a special cabinet meeting was held yesterday. A decision has been taken after discussion regarding the opening of educational institutions in the meeting. An official of the ministry said that the office will run according to the new schedule for the next two days. The school will not be opened at this time. However, a decision will be taken after the cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury said in a message, “Higher education institutions will be requested to take initiative to ensure the safety and harmonious environment of students to start education programs.” The Ministry of Education will request the heads of institutions to discuss with the student organizations.
Those concerned with education said that there will be no problem in the management of secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions if the environment for education is created in the university. Moreover, there is no problem in running primary schools in the city corporation area. Soon may be started in city corporation area also.
Incidentally, when a violent situation arose around the movement of students over the quota system in jobs, on the evening of July 16, a press release of the Ministry of Education announced the closure of secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions. Students are urged to stay indoors for safety.
On the same day, the University Grants Commission (UGC) directed to stop the educational programs of all public and private universities of the country. After that the universities announced closure of the educational activities and ordered the students to leave the halls.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) postponed the 44th BCS oral exam on July 21.
Earlier, the ongoing HSC and equivalent examination on July 18 was postponed with a notification on July 16, considering the safety of the students. On July 18, the July 28 examination was also postponed due to the ongoing violence over the quota system. All examinations are postponed till September 1.
Inter Education Board Coordination Committee President and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar told that the postponed examinations will be held after August 11.
