On the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Prime Minister promised that no one will be homeless or landless in Bangladesh. To implement that promise, the landless and homeless people are being given houses with two hundred plots of land as a special initiative of the Prime Minister. 277,292 houses have been handed over in four phases under Asharyan-2 project. It is the largest government rehabilitation program in the world in terms of number of beneficiaries and rehabilitation methods.
It is known that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took the first initiative to resettle the homeless in February 1972 when he visited Noakhali in the war-torn new country. After the formation of the first government in 1996, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the father of the nation, took the ‘Shelter Project’ as the first government-funded initiative for the rehabilitation of the homeless in 1997. On the birth centenary of the father of the nation, his daughter announced the guarantee of housing to all the landless and homeless families of the country.
Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Tofazzal Hossain Mia conducted the program at Ganabhaban. Apart from this, the local administration and public representatives on behalf of the Prime Minister handed over the necessary documents including land deeds and certificates to the beneficiaries.
