Human disaster in Satkaniya due to severe floods

Ayub Ali, Ctg: A humanitarian disaster has occurred in SatkaniaUpazila of Chittagong district due to the terrible flood of remembrance period. The entire Satkaniaupazila has been submerged in water for two consecutive days. There is a shortage of food and clean water for the sheltered people. The entire upazila is without electricity. Mobile network is down.
On August 9, a visit to the flood-affected villages of Satkaniaupazila revealed the dire picture of humanitarian disaster. As there has been no rain since morning, the flood water has started to recede a bit. But still almost every village in the upazila has waist level water.
Lakhs of people have taken shelter in various schools, colleges and privately owned multi-storey buildings.
Mustafa Kamal, a resident of SatkaniaCharti Union, told Daily Industry that the flood-affected people here are in a dire humanitarian crisis. We don’t have enough food here. There is no clean drinking water. Communication is not possible due to lack of mobile network. Suffering has become more extreme due to lack of electricity. He called upon the people of Chittagong to come forward with humanitarian aid.
Apu, a social influencer who went from Chittagong with relief aid in Satkania, said that we brought some relief aid to stand by the people in the flood of Satkania. But here I see a terrible picture. Millions of people are stuck in water. They need a lot of food support. Clean water is needed. The relief aid coming here is very less than what is needed.
Satkania Member of Parliament for Lohagara Constituency Abu Reza Muhammad NejamuddinNadvi Boren said, I spoke to the Minister of Disaster Management and Relief Ministry. He assured to send adequate relief materials to the affected people of SatkaniaLohagara soon. Contacted the King Salman Center funded by the Saudi King, a major donor organization in Kuwait, along with top officials from the UAE, Qatar and Turkish donor organizations. They expressed deep sympathy for the flood victims and assured me that they would do everything possible for the flood victims. Hopefully, the relief materials will reach them very soon.
A young man named Abdul Mannan, who went to distribute relief in a boat, said, “We are distributing dry food and pure water on the instructions of parliament member.” Millions of people are affected by floods here. But the relief is insufficient.
Meanwhile, 1500 army personnel started rescue operation and relief distribution in SatkaniaLohagara from Wednesday morning.
