Atta price increased by Tk 10 per kg

Staff Correspondent: Flour prices have increased in the wholesale and retail markets. In a span of two weeks, the price of flour has increased by a maximum of Tk 10 per kg and Atta by a maximum of Tk 6 per kg.
Consumer goods marketing companies say that the increase in the value of the dollar has increased the cost of importing wheat. As a result, prices are being adjusted in the market.
Retailers of flour and flour said that flour prices had fallen slightly in the past few months, following a spike in prices when the Ukraine-Russia war broke out last year. The rate was stable for about three months. But recently the price of flour has started increasing.
Meanwhile, Karthik Nandi, a businessman in Moulvibazar, a big market for consumer goods, said that in the space of two weeks, the wholesale price of 50 kg bag has increased by Tk 200 for Atta and that of flour by Tk 300.
Open flour is being sold at Tk 48 to Tk 50 per kg and packet flour at Tk 55 to Tk 65 per kg. Two weeks ago, open flour was sold at Tk 42 to Tk 45 and packet flour at Tk 50 to Tk 55. Two weeks ago, open flour was sold at Tk 55 to 60 per kg and packet flour at Tk 60 to 65 per kg. Prices have increased and now open flour is selling at Tk 60 to Tk 66 and packet flour at Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kg.
With similar information, the official agency Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) data says that the price of open flour per kg has increased by three and a half percent and that of packet flour by 14 percent in a month. At the same time, the kg of flour increased by 8 to 9 percent.
Director of TK Group Shafiul Athar in this regard said that due to the increase in the value of the dollar, the cost of importing wheat has increased. As a result, the price of flour is adjusting in the market. In the middle of the market, the price of flour decreased a lot.
According to importers, the annual demand of wheat in the country is 85 to 86 lakh tonnes, but the production is very limited. As a result, 74 to 75 million tons of wheat has to be imported every year, most of which is imported from Ukraine. Wheat imports were disrupted when the Ukraine-Russia war broke out in February last year. Then there was instability in the country’s flour market. At that time, a kg of open flour increased from Tk 35 to Tk 36 to Tk 58 to Tk 60. Similarly, flour rose from Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg to Tk 65 to Tk 75, which was followed by a downward trend for the last three months.
