Case against MP Mostafizur for violation of code of polls conduct

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission filed a case against Member of Parliament Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, the candidate of the ruling Awami League in Chittagong-16 Constituency for violating the Election Code of Conduct. Banshkhali election officer Muhammad Harun Molla filed the case in Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb’s court on Tuesday.
The court ordered Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury to appear before the court by January 3.
A case was filed against him under Section 8 (b) of the Code of Conduct. On Monday, the Election Commission directed to file a case against Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury. In the letter signed by AbdusSalam, it is said that Mustafizur Rahman entered the returning officer’s office with his companions during a massive showdown on 30th November while submitting the nomination papers. When the candidate was questioned about the violation of the code of conduct, he abused and beat the journalists to the ground and threatened to kill them.
Later, the Election Inquiry Committee submitted a report to the Election Commission regarding Mostafizur Rahman’s violation of the code of conduct. It is said that Mustafizur Rahman has violated the code of conduct by bringing more people. However, the matter of ‘beating and threatening’ the journalist was not proved in the investigation.
