Demand to name Padma Bridge on Sheikh Hasina

Staff Correspondent: Leaders and activists have demanded that the Padma Bridge be named after Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
The demand was made at a discussion meeting of the Awami League on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina’s Homecoming Day at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center yesterday.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader in his introductory speech asked the leaders and workers for naming the Padma Bridge. Sheikh Hasina demanded to name the bridge as Padma Bridge.
Obaidul Quader said, The trial of war criminals has become possible because Sheikh Hasina has come to the country. Atonement for Bangabandhu’s assassination has been possible. Sheikh Hasina has done the impossible in Bangladesh.
Highlighting the beginning of the Padma Bridge at that time, Obaidul Quader said, “The World Bank has stopped financing the Padma Bridge by slandering us.” Everyone in the Bangabandhu family was accused of stealing from Sheikh Rehana Joy, Bobby, all of them. Had it not been for Sheikh Hasina on that day, I would not have dared to build the Padma Bridge.
Addressing the leaders and workers, Obaidul Quader said, “I want you to know that the whole nation wants to name the Padma Bridge after Sheikh Hasina.” What do you want?
When the leaders and workers present at the time unanimously said yes, Quader said, “I have also made a proposal. I have said that people from all walks of life have suggested that since the Padma Bridge is a product of Sheikh Hasina’s courage, the bridge should be named Sheikh Hasina Padma Bridge. We are still claiming that. We are sending a summary from the bridge department.
The general secretary of the Awami League said, “Padma Bridge without Sheikh Hasina’s name, she was disrespected. But he doesn’t want to. Sheikh Rehana does not want. They said, ‘Let the Padma Bridge be named after the Padma Bridge. Do you agree.”
