GDP size increased to $465 billion

Staff Correspondent: The growth has increased temporarily to 6.25 percent till March of FY 2021-22, which was 8.94 percent last year. At the same time, the size of GDP has increased to $475 billion. The information was given by Planning Minister MA Mannan after the ECNEC meeting at the NEC meeting in the city yesterday. In the fiscal year 2020-21, the size of GDP was $418 billion.
The planning minister said the growth rate in the 2019-20 fiscal year was 3.45 percent. In addition, the size of the GDP in the fiscal year 2019-20 was $364 billion. As of March 2020-21, the GDP size is 6.94 percent or USD 417 billion, which is Tk 35,302 crore.
Agriculture Sector: Overall, the agriculture sector is projected to grow temporarily at 2.20 percent in FY 2021-22. Of this, growth of 1.07 percent in grain sub-sector, 3.10 percent in animal husbandry sub-sector, 5.07 percent in forest sub-sector and 2.08 percent in fisheries sector has been estimated.
Industry: The growth of manufacturing sector for FY 2021-22 is estimated to be 12.31 percent as compared to the previous year. Besides, growth of 7.24 per cent in power sector and 7.94 per cent in construction sector has been projected for the year. Overall, the industrial sector is projected to grow by 10.44 percent in FY 2021-22 as compared to the previous FY (2020-21).
Services: Growth is projected to be 6.72 percent in the wholesale and retail business sector, 5.60 percent in the automotive sector, 7.60 percent in the banking and insurance sector, 7.23 percent in the education sector and 9.8 percent in the health sector for the period 2021-22. Overall, the services sector is projected to grow by 7.31 percent in FY 2021-22 as compared to the previous fiscal year (2020-21).
