MPs anger over quality of education

Well-educated people don’t want to be VC: Dipu

Staff Correspondent: Opposition members of parliament have claimed that the education system has collapsed. He said that the nation is constantly declining due to employment and poor education system. As a result, the number of educated unemployed is increasing in the country.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that many eminent academics are not interested in working as the Vice Chancellor of the university.
Opposition parliamentarians on Tuesday (March 29) opposed the proposal of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur to pass the bill. Among them were Jatiya Party MPs Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Fakhrul Imam, Rustam Ali Faraji, BNP MPs Harunur Rashid and Rumin Farhana.
BNP MP Harunur Rashid said the quality of education has deteriorated. Moreover, no teacher-staff is being recruited in schools and colleges for the last 10 to 15 years without payment. Recently, Harun claimed that Tk 5 to 6 lakh has been spent on recruitment. He called for the introduction of international standard education system instead of traditional education.
Another BNP MP Rumin Farhana said, “We have passed 156 university bills with today’s bill.” But the unemployment rate has not decreased.
Highlighting a statistic, he said that at present the number of unemployed with MA pass is 36 per cent,
BA pass unemployed with 36 per cent, HSC pass with 28 per cent and SSC pass with 28 per cent unemployed. So over 6 percent of the educated unemployed are wandering around.
Of which only 3 percent have arranged employment by doing some work on their own initiative. Today, only 21 percent of the educated unemployed in the country have got jobs.
Jatiya Party’s Fakhrul Imam said private universities are managing their finances arbitrarily. If it is not stopped, corruption will increase and the education system will collapse. He said there should be a policy for all universities.
It is seen that different policies are being followed for different universities. If these are not stopped, the education system will collapse and education trade will increase. Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu said in Parliament, the infrastructure of our educational institutions is very beautiful. But the education system is dysfunctional. Teachers are not well trained. Most of the boys and girls who are leaving the university are unemployed. At this time, he called for the introduction of work-oriented education system.
Well-educated people don’t want to be VCs: Dipu
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that many eminent academics are not interested in working as the Vice Chancellor of the university.
“We have very good teachers who we would be proud to have as vice-chancellors,” he said. But many of them do not want to take this administrative responsibility. It doesn’t matter if we want the best one to be interested.
The minister made the remarks while discussing the passage of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur Bill-2022 in Parliament on Tuesday (March 29).
Opposition Jatiya Party’s Mujibul Haque Chunnu and BNP’s Harunur Rashid criticized the Vice-Chancellor’s actions while proposing to send the bill to the Public Opinion Verification and Selection Committee.
Chunnu said, if he had listened to the Vice-Chancellors before, he would have bowed his head in respect. Now hearing the news of their corruption, they bow their heads in shame. Hiring family members. Doing corruption.
Japar demanded that the secretary general appoint the vice-chancellor of the university out of party consideration.
BNP’s Harun complained that the vice-chancellors were “doing whatever they want”.
In response, the education minister said there were some criticisms about the activities of some university vice-chancellors. Action is being taken against those who have the truth. But this does not mean that I do not think it appropriate to comment on the vice-chancellors of all the universities in the country.
He said that when the panel is prepared and sent for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, the list is based on the issues. I’ve said it before. I am presenting again – the first is to see their academic excellence, the second is to see what kind of research they have done. That is seen. At the same time, whether they have led the organization or not … there are associations, they have led in different places or not.
The Vice-Chancellor not only looks at the academic side, but also the qualities of leadership are important. At the same time, it is also seen whether he has performed administrative duties or not. The names of those who are considered the best are considered in these considerations.
